The European Parliament has adopted a resolution proposing to consider Armenia's membership in the European Union if it continues to implement sustainable reforms aimed at strengthening democracy.
The European Parliament has adopted a resolution proposing to consider Armenia's membership in the European Union. This is reported by UNN with reference to NEWS.am.
"The European Parliament has adopted a resolution proposing to consider Armenia's membership in the European Union. The resolution was voted in favor by 504 MEPs, against by 4, and abstained by 32. The document, authored by the European People's Party faction, is presented as a joint initiative of all factions," the newspaper writes.
The resolution states that if Armenia is interested in obtaining candidate status and continues to pursue sustainable reforms that strengthen its democracy, this could be the basis for a transformation phase in EU-Armenia relations.
The deputies called on the EU executive bodies, the Commission and the Council to actively support Armenia in expanding cooperation with the EU not only in economic partnership, but also in the areas of political dialogue, security, and relations between people and other countries.

According to Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, Armenia is considering applying for membership in the European Union and is seeking closer ties with the West.
