According to Swift's longtime publicist, the couple wore outfits by Christian Dior and chose not to have bridesmaids or groomsmen. Instead, Swift's brother, Austin Swift, served as her witness, and former American football player Jason Kelce was the groom's witness.
The event at Madison Square Garden blocked one of Manhattan's busiest corridors and brought Hollywood stars to a party that is likely to become the event of the century.
Among those spotted were actors Hugh Grant and Jason Sudeikis, singer Benson Boone, and model Gigi Hadid.
Crowds of fans gathered outside throughout the day on Friday, some singing Swift's songs and wearing concert merchandise, while others climbed scaffolding in hopes of getting a better view of the celebration.
The celebration at the arena began on Thursday with a much smaller event, reportedly attended by about 100 people. A permit request filed with New York officials referred to the event as a "pre-party."
On Friday, a much larger event led to the installation of a tent near the arena, which was twice the size of Thursday's. A stream of tinted SUVs drove through the structure, allowing many guests to conceal their arrival while streets in midtown Manhattan were closed to traffic. Crews at the sports arena set up curtains and gazebos for the large-scale event.
Swift's longtime publicist, Tree Paine, confirmed to the BBC that they were married on Friday in New York and provided details of the ceremony. Around the same time, huge signs around Madison Square Garden lit up with the words "JUST&T MARRIED" — a nod to the names Taylor and Travis.
Paine reported that Swift and Kelce were dressed in wedding attire created by Jonathan Anderson, the creative director of Dior's women's, men's, and haute couture collections, in close collaboration with the bride and groom.
"This is the designer's first wedding dress for a globally renowned celebrity," Paine's statement said, adding that their shoes were custom-made by Christian Louboutin and the bride wore Cartier jewelry.
