Spain calls on EU to postpone ban on Russian gas due to risk of dependence on the US

The head of one of Europe's largest liquefied natural gas hubs has called on the European Union to postpone the planned 2027 ban on imports of Russian LNG, warning of the risk of excessive dependence on supplies from the United States. This is reported by UNN citing the Financial Times.

The head of the port of Bilbao, Ivan Jimenez, stated that the EU should gradually reduce purchases of Russian gas, but not abruptly abandon it.

According to Jimenez, now is not the best time for a complete rejection of Russian LNG, as this could create serious risks for the energy security of the European Union.
