Details
Proud uniform, shining saber and a pinch of coke - it seems that the Royal Guard of Denmark has problems with its image. The documentary "The Royal Guard on Drugs" (TV 2 Echo "Livgarden på stoffer") allegedly shocked the Danish public, as video footage captured incidents of three guards of the Royal Guard inhaling cocaine from a saber.
This incident occurred in 2023. The video shows a conscript serving in the Life Guard of the Royal Family - dressed only in his underwear, using the royal saber as a base for sniffing cocaine. His comrades filmed it and encouraged him. The scene took place in the barracks of the royal guard in Rosenborg Castle in Copenhagen.
It should also be noted that the guards later claimed that it was "just a prank after a night of drinking."

However, the "sniffing" of the saber turned into a criminal case. The three soldiers involved were dismissed from service after the incident, fined and received a "blemish on their criminal record."
Dangerous antics and public outcry
The incident caused particular concern, as the royal guard performs not only representative duties. As the media explain, the guards have automatic weapons; they must be ready for immediate action in emergency situations. It is important that they guard the royal family, and moreover, representatives of the Life Guard of Denmark guard other important institutions in the country, albeit in ordinary uniforms, without the characteristic bear hats.
Comment
I served with people who were not suitable for this. It's really dangerous. I was so proud to be able to serve in the Royal Life Guard. My pride disappeared when I got there
