Details
The makeshift ferry was originally a fishing boat. There were 130 people on board, and problems arose when the boat tried to reach an island off Nampula province.
Because the boat was overcrowded and not designed for passenger transportation, it sank. According to local official Jaime Neto, 91 people died.
There are many children among the dead. Five people have been rescued, and search teams are looking for more. Weather conditions are complicating the search.
