Scholz initiates a vote of confidence after the political crisis in the German government. This was reported by DW, according to UNN.
Details
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has announced that a vote of confidence in his government will be held in the Bundestag on January 15, 2024. This decision was the result of the escalation of the political situation within the coalition after a serious conflict with the leader of the Free Democrats, Christian Lindner. Scholz said that Germany needs a stable government capable of working effectively in the face of economic instability.
The conflict between Scholz and Lindner arose against the backdrop of disagreements over budget policy. Lindner, who also serves as finance minister, proposed holding early parliamentary elections in early 2025. In his proposal, he called for budget cuts and tax cuts for wealthy citizens, as well as a slowdown in Germany's transition to a carbon-neutral economy. Scholz, in turn, advocates the active use of public funds to stimulate economic development, including through public investment.
Recall
In protest of these proposals, Scholz announced the dismissal of Lindner as Finance Minister. The chancellor also said that despite the difficulties, the government must continue to work for the stability of the country.
