Rumors of an explosion in the center of Kyiv spread online: the State Emergency Service explained what happened

Preliminary, an electric car Nissan LEAF caught fire due to a short circuit. The spokesman of the State Emergency Service denied rumors about the explosion, explaining that the bang could have been caused by a short circuit.

In the Pechersk district of Kyiv, near the "Olimpiyska" metro station, a Nissan LEAF electric car caught fire, presumably due to a short circuit. The fire has been extinguished, Pavlo Petrov, a spokesman for the State Emergency Service in Kyiv, told a journalist of UNN, after rumors spread on social networks about an alleged explosion in the center of Kyiv.

"There was a fire in a Nissan LEAF electric car. And in the courtyard of a house near the Olimpiyska metro station. The fire has been extinguished. There were no casualties," Petrov said.
Petrov also denied rumors circulating on social media that an explosion was heard at the scene. According to him, the electric car caught fire, presumably due to a short circuit.
"Everything is calm, no explosion occurred. It's an electric car, if there is a short circuit, you can hear a characteristic bang, which witnesses could have confused with an explosion," the spokesman explained.
What is known about the Nissan LEAF electric car
This is an electric car of the Japanese concern Nissan, which has been mass-produced since the spring of 2010. The world premiere took place at the 2009 Tokyo International Motor Show. The second generation of the Nissan LEAF electric car has been produced since 2017. The cars are produced at factories in Japan, the USA and Great Britain.
The term "LEAF" is a backronym of the word, which in English means leading environmentally-friendly affordable family car.
In Ukraine, the price of a Nissan LEAF ranges from 160 to 600 thousand hryvnias.
