In the Romanian parliamentary elections, 39 parties are competing for 465 seats in the bicameral parliament. The ultra-nationalist alliance for the unity of Romanians leads with 22.4% of support, ahead of the ruling party.

According to the Romanian service of Radio Liberty, more than 10,000 candidates have registered to compete for seats in the bicameral parliament – 329 seats in the Lower House of the Chamber of Deputies and 136 seats in the Senate.

A pre-election poll conducted by Atlas Intel showed that the far-right ultranationalist Alliance for the unity of Romanians (AUR) leads with 22.4% of support, slightly ahead of the ruling Social Democratic Party (SDP) with 21.4%.

AUR takes a sharply anti-Western stance, questioning Romania's membership in the European Union and NATO, as well as promoting xenophobia and conspiracy theories.
