Ukrainian parliament passes bill on SAPO independence, partially repealing some of the Lozovyi amendments, despite international calls for their complete abolition

The Verkhovna Rada today passed a bill on the independence of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO), but only with "very partial" abolition of some provisions of the "Lozovyi amendments," MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak said on Friday, UNN reports.

No. 10060 - independence of the SAPO was adopted as a whole. 298 votes in favor. Unfortunately, the draft law only partially abolishes some of the provisions of Lozovyi's "amendments"

- Zheleznyak wrote on Telegram.

He pointed out that the adoption of the draft law is one of the main requirements of the IMF and the EU, as well as G7 ambassadors. "However, the latter's position on Lozovyi's amendments was ignored," Zheleznyak said.

Addendum

On December 5, G7 ambassadors indicated that they were "closely monitoring the SAPO reform". "In order to strengthen anti-corruption efforts, we advise to take the current draft as a basis and cancel the Lozovyi amendments, protect the jurisdiction of the SAPO/NABU, and allow the SAPO to request extradition + initiate investigations against MPs," the G7 ambassadors said in a statement on X.

After the committee meeting, representatives of civil society pointed out that the draft law was passed without the complete abolition of the Lozovyi amendments.
