U.S. authorities have determined that a Secret Service agent was wounded during an incident in Washington by a shot from the weapon of a man accused of attempting to attack President Donald Trump. This was reported by the Associated Press, according to UNN.

Details

District of Columbia Prosecutor Jeanine Pirro stated that the investigation confirmed the origin of the bullet that struck the agent's protective gear.

"We can now establish that the slug fired from the defendant's Mossberg pump-action shotgun was intertwined with the fibers of the Secret Service officer's vest. It is definitely his bullet,"

she said on CNN.

The incident occurred on April 25 at a Washington hotel during a White House Correspondents' Association event. According to the investigation, the accused, Cole Thomas Allen, attempted to break into the event with the intent to kill the president.

Allen was wounded during the attack but survived. The Secret Service agent also survived.

The investigation had previously considered the possibility of friendly fire, but those assumptions were not confirmed.

Indictment and Trial

Allen remains in custody awaiting trial. He has been charged with the attempted assassination of the president, as well as two counts related to the use of a firearm, specifically during a crime of violence.

If convicted on the main charge alone, he faces life imprisonment.

On Sunday, his lawyers filed a motion stating that the defendant is no longer under suicide watch and asked to withdraw a previous request for the formal removal of such supervision.
