In the US, 31-year-old California resident Cole Thomas Allen has been charged with the attempted assassination of President Donald Trump during an incident at a gala dinner in Washington last weekend. This was reported by Bloomberg, according to UNN.

The suspect has already appeared in federal court and is currently in custody. In addition to the assassination attempt, he is charged with a series of crimes related to the use of firearms. According to the investigation, Allen transported weapons across state lines with the intent to commit a felony.
Incident at the Event
The man was detained near the Washington Hilton hotel, where the annual White House Correspondents' Association dinner was taking place. According to law enforcement, he attempted to infiltrate the event to attack high-ranking officials, including Trump.
As a result of the incident, the President, Vice President JD Vance, and members of the cabinet were evacuated. A shotgun, a pistol, and knives were found in the suspect's possession.

Acting US Attorney General Todd Blanche stated: "We are thoroughly investigating this case. We will apply the law fairly and ensure swift and certain accountability."
He also emphasized that security services acted appropriately: "Law enforcement did not fail. This man was one floor above the ballroom, and there were hundreds of federal agents between him and the President of the United States."
