When asked why, when we are understaffed, we create new brigades, Zelensky replied: "Who told you that we are creating them?
Reserve units were created. Their core were people who had been through the war. Around them were those who had mobilized. After the training, everyone was waiting to be equipped with equipment. All this talk about new brigades means that in order to have a rotation, another brigade must replace one. We can call it "new". That's why no one created dozens of new brigades
The President noted that there are some moments when, for example, a particular brigade can no longer hold a certain width of the site.
"Because it is tired. Not only can't you replace it, but the number of Russian troops in the area says that you need to reinforce it with an additional brigade. Because the number of Russians is one to eight, or one to three," Zelensky said.
Addendum
Before that, Zelenskyy stated that there is a slow, but nevertheless, pressure and advance of the Russians in eastern Ukraine. This is due to the slow equipping of brigades with weapons and training of the military.
In April, Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine was forming new brigades to strengthen its positions and that they needed support.
In August, Forbes reported that the Ukrainian army was forming new mechanized brigades.
In November, the spokesman for the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Captain Dmytro Lykhoviy, explained to journalists the need to create new brigades in the Armed Forces and to strengthen the defense areas of brigades with battalions from other military units instead of replenishing the personnel of the brigades themselves.
