Police detained three people near the Georgian Parliament. Students tried to set up chairs for the protesters, which provoked disputes and detentions.

Police detained three participants of a protest action near the Parliament of Georgia in Tbilisi, when students tried to put chairs for the protesters, UNN reports with reference to Novini Georgia.

Details

According to Mtavari, the detention took place when two students tried to put chairs for protesters on the stairs near the main entrance to the legislative body - they have been staying overnight at this location for several days.

According to Radio Svoboda, the police told the students that the chairs were dangerous objects and could not be brought to the rally. There was a dispute between the protesters and the Ministry of Internal Affairs. At this time, the girls were put in a police car. The same was done with a young man who applauded them, thereby expressing protest against the detention of like-minded people.

It is likely that all three have now been taken to the police station. It is not yet clear what they are accused of.

At the time of the detention, there were no more than ten protesters near the parliament - they have not yet been joined by participants in daily rallies near the building of the Georgian Public Broadcaster.

Let's add

On November 28, 2024, after the controversial parliamentary elections, the government was approved in Georgia, and that same evening, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze announced the freezing of negotiations on the country's accession to the EU. This provoked protests from the pro-European part of the population, which have not stopped to this day.

Actions in Tbilisi and other cities of the country take place regularly, despite fines, detentions and new laws restricting freedom of assembly. The demands of the protesters are early parliamentary elections and the release of fifty critics of the "Georgian Dream", against whom criminal cases have been initiated.
