Poland plans to strengthen security on the border with Belarus - additional border guard patrols will guard areas that are at particular risk. This was stated by the Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration of Poland, Tomasz Siemoniak, RMF24 reports, writes UNN.
Details
In particular, it is planned to recruit 1,500 new Border Guard officers to ensure security in critical areas of the border. This is part of a broader defence strengthening strategy that also includes modernising fences and improving the system for detaining illegal migrants.
The length of the Polish-Belarusian border is 418 km and it is the eastern border of the European Union.
The first 500 new border guards are expected to join the patrols this year, with another 1,000 joining later.
We are protecting the Polish-Belarusian border! After strengthening the physical barrier, expanding electronic control (cameras, sensors, lighting), creating a buffer zone and fighting smugglers, we will also start building a road along the border and recruit 1,500 new border guards
Currently, the border is guarded by 11,000 law enforcement officers, including border guards, soldiers and police.
Reminder
As UNN wrote earlier, the Polish government will suspend the protection of new asylum seekers crossing the border from Belarus. Recently, migration pressure from the Belarusian side has increased.
