Hamburg Airport suspended operations and evacuated passengers due to unauthorized access to the security zone. The intruder has been detained; flights are delayed.
At Hamburg International Airport in Germany, all departures have been temporarily canceled following a security breach. Part of the terminals had to be evacuated, and passengers already on board aircraft were asked to disembark, UNN reports with reference to the Mirror.
According to the airport administration, the emergency occurred after a person in Terminal 2 pressed an emergency button on a door and gained unauthorized access to the airport's secure area.
In connection with this, law enforcement officers launched a large-scale sweep of the territory. All passengers who had already passed security control were evacuated from the closed area of the terminal. Passengers who had already taken their seats before departure were also offloaded from the planes.
According to local media reports, the individual who caused the incident has been detained. They are currently at the federal police station on the airport grounds.
Due to the ongoing checks, all departing flights were temporarily canceled. Information boards are already displaying flight delays of up to three hours.
Police, customs officers, and emergency services were involved in the operation. It is also reported that one woman sought medical assistance due to feeling unwell during the evacuation.
At this time, the airport administration has not announced when the airport's operations will be fully restored.
