The Russian military command may focus its projected offensive in late spring/summer 2024 in western Donetsk region due to limited resources, with priority given to the Avdiivka area.

Russian military commanders will favor one operational direction, possibly in the western part of Donetsk region, according to analysts at the Institute for the Study of War. A new ISW analysis also mentions the Russian army's attention to the Kharkiv-Luhansk axis and areas near Bakhmut and Avdiivka. In these areas, the Russian army is amassing personnel and equipment, but Russian forces are limited in their planning, the report says, UNN reports .

The Russian command may consider the Avdiivka area in the Donetsk region to be its priority. The willingness of the Russian military command to deploy a tank battalion to the Avdiivka offensive indicates that this offensive is a priority. The Institute for War Studies noted, citing Ukrainian officials, that Russian troops are amassing personnel along the Kharkiv-Luhansk axis, near Bakhmut, near Avdiivka, and in the western part of Zaporizhzhia region.
