On Wednesday, millions of people in Spain gathered to see a total solar eclipse that lasted less than 2.5 minutes. This is the first such phenomenon in the country in more than a hundred years.
On Wednesday, millions of people filled Spain’s cities and towns in search of the best views of a total solar eclipse, when the alignment of the Sun, Moon and Earth will briefly plunge part of the planet into darkness, reports UNN, citing AP.

Crowds brought folding chairs, umbrellas and hats, eagerly awaiting the celestial spectacle, which began in the early evening. It is the country’s first total solar eclipse in more than a century.
Across a wide area of northern and central Spain, millions of people expected to get some of the best views of the eclipse in continental Europe. A small part of Greenland and Iceland may witness the eclipse — weather permitting.

The total eclipse — when the Moon completely blocks the sunlight — was expected to last less than 2.5 minutes, reaching its maximum duration off Iceland’s western coast. By the time it reached a small part of Portugal and then Spain, shortly before sunset, the total phase would be reduced to about a minute. The eclipse would then end over the Mediterranean Sea.
