Mercedes has unveiled the G-Wagen electric SUV with a 116 kWh battery, 580 hp and a starting price of around $152,000.

Luxury SUV Mercedes G-Wagen finally got an electrified version, writes UNN with reference to The Verge.

Details

"For those who prefer to shred gravel and traverse boulders surrounded by luxurious napa leather, and can't imagine emitting even one molecule of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere in the process - the all-electric Mercedes G-Wagen is for you," the publication writes.

As noted, the "very expensive square status symbol is now even more of a status symbol" thanks to a 116 kWh battery pack and an all-electric drivetrain with four individually controlled motors with a maximum total output of 432 kW - or the equivalent of about 580 horsepower - and a maximum torque of 1,164 Newton-meters.

"I joked recently that it's like a Birkin bag from Mercedes," Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Kallenius said on the Decoder podcast back in 2022. - Everyone wants one of these, and the wait time is very long. It might even be the most coveted car in our portfolio.

But more power comes at a higher cost. The Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ technology, the publication writes, "will cost from 142,621.50 euros ($152,184.27), while the first version will cost 192,524.15 euros ($205,432.89)." That's a "markup" over gasoline models, which typically start at $143,000. At launch, the Edition One will be exclusive to the U.S. market and will arrive in dealerships in the second half of 2024, the publication notes.

The electric SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds, and the top speed will be electronically limited at 180 km/h (or 112 mph).

The exterior is reportedly nearly identical to the current model year's gasoline-powered G-Wagens.
