Major accident with 12 dead in Mykolaiv region: investigation launched

The prosecutor's office has launched a pre-trial investigation into a major accident in the Mykolaiv region, where 12 people died. The accident occurred due to the Nissan driver driving into the oncoming lane, which caused a minibus to overturn and collide with a truck.

The Office of the Prosecutor General stated that a pre-trial investigation has been launched into the large-scale traffic accident in the Mykolaiv region, which killed 12 people, reports UNN.
Under the procedural guidance of the Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor's Office, a pre-trial investigation has been initiated under Part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine

According to the investigation, the accident occurred on July 4, 2026, at approximately 07:42 on the highway "Odesa – Melitopol – Novoazovsk" near the intersection with the road to the village of Shchaslyve, Mykolaiv district, involving Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, Volvo, and Nissan vehicles.
According to preliminary data, the driver of the Nissan drove into the oncoming lane, creating an emergency situation for the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter minibus.
Trying to avoid a head-on collision, the minibus driver drove onto the shoulder, lost control, after which the vehicle overturned, drove into the oncoming lane, and crashed into a Volvo truck.
As a result of the disaster, the driver and 11 passengers of the minibus died. Six more people, including a 15-year-old girl, were hospitalized in medical facilities in Mykolaiv with injuries of varying severity.
Currently, the driver of the Nissan has been found and investigative actions are being conducted with him, based on the results of which his actions will be given a proper legal assessment.
The investigation is ongoing.
