The new Prime Minister of Hungary, Péter Magyar, has ordered the dismantling of the fence near Viktor Orbán's former residence—the Carmelite Monastery in Budapest—which for several years restricted access for journalists and tourists to the government quarter. This was reported by HVG, according to UNN.

Details

On Friday morning, Magyar, along with ministers, began dismantling the fence near the "Carmelite" complex, where the residence of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán was previously located.

"I have ordered the complete dismantling of the fence that has stood here since 2021,"

Magyar stated.

During the event, the new Minister of Transport, Dávid Vitézy, criticized the previous government for large-scale spending on the government quarter in the Buda Castle.

"János Lázár halted the development of suburban trains, but money was always found for the construction of government facilities in the castle. And no one ever asked the Hungarians if they wanted this,"

Vitézy said.

According to him, between 500 and 1,000 billion forints are still needed to complete construction in the area.

Magyar also announced that the building of the former Prime Minister's residence will be open to visitors starting this weekend.

"The Carmelite will be open to the public. People will be able to enter freely. It will also be possible to visit the former ministry of Antal Rogán and see, among other things, the famous 'cigar room',"

the Prime Minister stated.

He specified that access to the complex will be free, and tours will be conducted in groups of 25 people every 15 minutes.

In addition, the Hungarian authorities announced a review of contracts for the construction of government facilities in the Buda Castle area.

"We will terminate contracts with contractors who are not prepared to complete projects while taking the interests of the Hungarian budget into account,"

Vitézy noted, adding that the government will investigate possible overpricing of the works.
