Kyiv and Lviv railway stations to be made more accessible with EBRD funds – agreement signed
Kyiv • UNN
Ukrzaliznytsia will receive 54 million euros from the EBRD for station accessibility and energy. The funds will be allocated to the Kyiv and Lviv stations and for the company's own electricity generation.

Kyiv and Lviv railway stations, among others, are planned to be made more inclusive using funds from the EBRD; a memorandum has been signed on attracting grant funding for Ukrzaliznytsia, Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration - Minister for Communities and Territories Development Oleksiy Kuleba announced on Tuesday on social media, UNN reports.
This involves 54 million euros within the framework of a joint project with the EU and the EBRD
Where the money will go
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the funding is directed towards three areas:
- first – 10 million euros for accessibility: modernization of stations, new elevators, escalators, accessible platforms, and clear navigation. According to Kuleba, "we are starting with the key stations – Kyiv and Lviv";
- second – 41 million euros for the development of self-generation: the purchase of gas piston units with a capacity of 75 MW. This, as the government official explained, enables Ukrzaliznytsia to operate even during attacks on the power system, ensuring stable transportation and reducing the load on the power grid. This is part of a larger project with the EBRD totaling up to 245 million euros, which involves the development of distributed generation for UZ;
- third – 3 million euros for the creation of the UZ Academy. This refers to a modern personnel training system, new management approaches, and specific programs for veterans.
The Ministry of Development also reported that priorities for the restoration of social and critical infrastructure were agreed upon with the EBRD.
"The focus is on the implementation of joint projects and further cooperation in key areas: transport infrastructure (roads, railways, ports); energy resilience of regions; protection of critical infrastructure; attracting investment through public-private partnerships," the ministry reported.
Separately, the parties agreed on the launch of a fast-track approach for PPP projects - with preparation and launch within 9 months.
The EBRD confirmed its readiness to continue supporting Ukraine financially and with expertise, the Ministry of Development noted.
