Charles III and Queen Camilla will remain living at Clarence House after the completion of the renovation of Buckingham Palace. The monarch has for the first time disclosed the amount of taxes paid — £12.9 million.

King of Great Britain Charles III will not move into the royal residence after the completion of the large-scale renovation of Buckingham Palace. The monarch, along with Queen Camilla, will continue to live at Clarence House, while the palace will remain the main ceremonial and administrative center of the monarchy, writes UNN citing the Associated Press.
Details
The renovation of Buckingham Palace has been ongoing for about ten years and costs £369 million (nearly $487 million). According to representatives of the royal family, the refusal of the monarch to permanently reside in the palace will allow expanding public access to the historic building.
At the same time, Charles III and Queen Camilla will continue to hold official events and perform state duties at Buckingham Palace.
The King has revealed the amount of taxes paid for the first time
The decision was announced during the presentation of the royal family's financial report. It also became known that Charles III became the first British monarch to disclose the amount of taxes paid.
In the 2024-2025 fiscal year, the King paid £12.9 million in income and capital gains tax, which is more than a year earlier.
The monarchy is trying to restore trust
According to AP, these steps are part of the royal family's attempts to make its activities more transparent following scandals involving Prince Andrew and his contacts with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Buckingham Palace has been the official London residence of British monarchs since the time of Queen Victoria. It has 775 rooms, is used for state receptions, ceremonies, and official events, and remains one of the main symbols of the British monarchy.
