In Wrocław, an attack on Ukrainians was condemned - the city mayor reacted, the consulate thanked for the stance

The mayor of Polish Wrocław, Jacek Sutryk, reacted to the attack on Ukrainian citizens, stating that there will be no tolerance for violence, xenophobia, and hate crimes in the city. The Consulate General of Ukraine in Wrocław thanked the mayor for his prompt and principled response, reports UNN.

According to the police, the incident occurred on July 26 at around 6:30 PM on Okulickiego Street near the bus terminus in Wrocław. The victims are a 20-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man – citizens of Ukraine. Both were hospitalized with suspected concussions.

The police confirmed that the Ukrainian couple filed a report about the attack.

We have accepted their statement and are clarifying all circumstances. We confirm the fact of this incident. Police officers are conducting intensive measures to identify the attackers and detain them

According to her, the conflict began with a verbal argument in a queue at a store, after which several men attacked the Ukrainian citizen on the street. The girl, who tried to defend the boy, was also struck. In a video released by the victim's mother, a group of men can be seen running up to the couple and starting to punch the boy. The attackers fled before law enforcement arrived.

The mother of the victim called for maximum publicity of the incident so that the perpetrators could be identified and detained as quickly as possible.

Against this backdrop, the mayor of Wrocław, Jacek Sutryk, made a public statement.

I am deeply saddened and outraged by the brutal attacks in Wrocław, which, according to available information, were motivated by prejudice based on nationality. I want to state clearly: in our city, there is and will be no tolerance for violence motivated by hatred, xenophobia, or prejudice

Sutryk also stressed that every person, regardless of language, origin, or beliefs, has the right to feel safe in Wrocław. According to him, the city must remain open, safe, and based on mutual respect and solidarity.

In turn, the Consulate General of Ukraine in Wrocław thanked the mayor for his prompt response.

The consulate added that they highly appreciate the unequivocal condemnation of any manifestations of hatred, xenophobia, and violence, as well as the confirmation that Wrocław remains a city of openness, mutual respect, and solidarity.

We are convinced that the joint efforts of authorities, law enforcement agencies, and civil society are the key to the safety of all city residents, regardless of their origin or the language they speak

In Wrocław, a Ukrainian girl and boy were brutally beaten. According to information published on social media, the attackers may have been Poles, and the reason for the aggression was allegedly the Ukrainian accent. The victims sustained serious injuries, with suspected concussions.
