Participants of the action, including representatives of left-wing, pro-Palestinian, and Kurdish political forces, chanted: "Murderer, USA, get out of our country."
According to 21-year-old protest participant Ali Gültekin, the demonstrators opposed the holding of the NATO summit, which they consider a "machine of slaughter" created to maintain global hegemony.
Spokesperson for the left-wing Red Party, Günçağ Aydın, stated that ahead of the summit, representatives of leftist movements came under significant pressure from the authorities.
Hundreds of our friends were detained, but we continue to say that NATO is a coalition of those we consider murderers and imperialist states
The action in Istanbul ended peacefully and without detentions. At the same time, earlier that day, police in Ankara dispersed a small demonstration, where a ban on protests is in effect during the summit, and detained about 20 people.
