According to the indictment, Dieter S. was a member of an armed unit of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) in the east of Ukraine from December 2014 to September 2016. The defendant had firearms. Dieter S. took part in the fighting around Donetsk airport on the side of the "dpR" in the winter of 2014/2015 and fought in the Ukrainian town of maryinka in June 2015.
