In Cherkasy region, an 11-year-old girl died by suicide — police are investigating the circumstances

In Horodyshche, Cherkasy region, police are investigating the death of an 11-year-old girl who allegedly died by suicide. Law enforcement officers are also establishing the circumstances of a conflict involving the girl. This was reported by the Main Department of the National Police in Cherkasy region, reports UNN. 

On July 30, in one of the houses in Horodyshche, the parents found their 11-year-old daughter unconscious. According to preliminary information, the child had taken medication. The girl was hospitalized, where she died. The girl’s family had not previously come to the attention of the police and was not subject to preventive monitoring

Regarding the child’s death, investigators opened criminal proceedings under Clause 2, Part 2, Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, marked as “suicide.” As part of the investigation, the necessary examinations have been ordered, and all circumstances that could have preceded the tragedy are being established.

Police also reported that on August 9, a video of a conflict between minors that took place in an unfinished building was circulated on social media. The video shows one of the girls hitting another. Police established that one of the participants in the conflict was the 11-year-old girl who subsequently died by suicide.

According to preliminary information, the incident occurred approximately 20–21 days before the child’s death. No statements or reports regarding this conflict had been received by the police at the time it occurred. Regarding the incident recorded on video, law enforcement officers also launched criminal proceedings under Article 126 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (beatings and torture).

Police are currently establishing all participants and witnesses to the conflict and clarifying its causes and circumstances. As part of the investigation, they are also checking whether the events recorded on video could have been connected to the child’s death. The investigation is ongoing. Final conclusions regarding the circumstances of the child’s death and a possible connection with other events will be made based on the results of a set of investigative actions and examinations

The Main Department of the National Police in Cherkasy region told a UNN journalist that the necessary measures to establish all the circumstances are still underway.
