The Major Oak, which is over 1000 years old, has failed to produce leaves for the first time due to stress from hot summers. The tree died because of global warming and the record heat of 2022.

The Major Oak in Sherwood Forest in the UK, where, according to legend, Robin Hood hid his loot, has failed to produce leaves for the first time. The tree died due to stress caused by a series of hot and dry summers. This is reported by The Guardian, as conveyed by UNN.
The enormous tree, which has been growing in Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire for at least 1,000 years, has not produced any leaves this year due to stress caused by a series of hot and dry summers
Like other ancient oaks, the tree has repeatedly suffered stress from heat and drought caused by global warming, especially during the heatwave of July 2022, when Britain "baked" under a record temperature of 40 °C.
Robert Brackley, a lecturer in tour education who has shown thousands of schoolchildren the wonders of the "Major Oak," said: "The stories it has given us are its legacy. It is the most famous tree in the world. The legend always lives on. I am sad, but this is just a moment in time. We must remember what it was and admire it today."
The Major Oak got its name after Major Hayman Rooke mentioned it in his 1790 book about oaks. This caused the first wave of visitors, who began to flock to the forest.
According to legend, it was under the canopy of the Major Oak that Robin Hood found shelter – a semi-mythical 13th-century outlaw who, according to tales, robbed only the wealthy and helped the poor. His base was located right in Sherwood Forest, where the band hid from the Sheriff of Nottingham.
Let us recall
As the journal Science writes, climate change is increasingly threatening plants worldwide and could lead to the extinction of some species by the end of the century.
