IAEA adopts resolution demanding Iran report uranium stockpiles and admit inspectors

The Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has adopted a resolution, supported by the US, demanding that Iran declare its remaining stockpiles of enriched uranium and allow inspectors to verify them. This was reported by Reuters, according to UNN.

Details

It is noted that the resolution, proposed by the United States, Great Britain, France, and Germany, was supported by 21 members of the IAEA Board. Representatives of Russia, China, and Niger voted against it, while 10 others abstained.

Iran's actions not only raise urgent concerns regarding the nature of its nuclear program but also threaten the very integrity of the global nuclear safeguards regime

- the authors of the resolution stated.

In turn, Iran's ambassador to the IAEA, Reza Najafi, when asked how the country would respond to the resolution, replied that the decision would be made by Tehran.

Without considering the root causes of the current situation, the resolution focuses exclusively on its consequences and puts forward a series of excessive demands on Iran

- the diplomat said after the vote.

The publication adds that Iran's mission to the IAEA warned the Board of Governors to be "cautious." Meanwhile, Iran is outraged by resolutions against it and has responded to previous ones by escalating its atomic activities or reducing cooperation with the IAEA.
