A mobile group of National Guardsmen shot down an enemy cruise missile with machine guns during an air attack on Kyiv on December 29. This was reported by the National Guard of Ukraine, UNN reports.
"During Russia's massive missile attack on Ukrainian territory on December 29, a mobile firing group of the 27th Pechersk Brigade Guards shot down an enemy cruise missile," the National Guard said.
It is noted that after detecting the target, which was moving in the direction of Kyiv, the National Guard opened fire with machine guns. It was found that as a result of the fire damage, the missile's fuel tanks detonated, and it lost control and altitude.
The warhead did not detonate.
"The National Guard's fire teams were created to counter air strikes, in particular to shoot down missiles and kamikaze drones," the NGU added.

The death toll from the massive rocket attack on the capital has risen to 16. According to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, January 1 will be declared a day of mourning.
