Germany supports the inclusion of a ban on imports of russian liquefied natural gas in the next package of EU sanctions against russia. German Vice Chancellor and Economy Minister Robert Habeck said this, calling on other countries to follow suit.

Robert Habeck said that if Germany was able to get rid of even the infrastructural dependence on russian pipeline gas, other countries could follow suit. "What Germany has been able to do with gas should also be possible for other countries in other energy areas," the minister said, referring not only to russian LNG but also to exports of nuclear power plant fuel from russia to the eU.

According to experts, russia is currently the second largest LNG supplier to the EU after the US. Its share in total imports is 16%.
