FBI warned of threat from Iran, but White House denied risks - Reuters

US intelligence reported the threat of Iranian attacks on government facilities and dissidents. Donald Trump publicly downplayed the danger despite intelligence data.

In March 2026, the FBI warned US law enforcement agencies about an increased threat from the Iranian government to facilities in the United States. At the same time, the White House downplayed this risk, UNN reports with reference to Reuters.
Details
According to a March 20 report, the FBI and other federal intelligence agencies warned that the Iranian government "poses a persistent threat" to US military and government personnel and buildings, Jewish and Israeli institutions, and Iranian dissidents in the US. Despite these warnings, the FBI and the National Counterterrorism Center have not identified widespread threats to the American public.
At the same time, US President Donald Trump publicly minimized the likelihood of Iranian attacks on American territory, Reuters reports. For example, when asked outside the White House on March 11 whether he was concerned about the possibility of an Iranian attack on the US, Trump replied: "No, I'm not concerned."
But this week, the American president said that "an entire civilization will die tonight" if Iran does not comply with his demands. However, he later postponed his threats to strike for two weeks.
The same report states that Iranian intelligence services have tried to kidnap and kill Americans in recent years, and Tehran prefers to use agents who have legal status in the United States.
Recall
On the night of April 8, US President Donald Trump announced a two-week suspension of attacks on Iran.
Iran and Israel, following the US, agreed to a two-week ceasefire.
