Fatal accident with three teenage victims in Lviv region: driver suspected

According to police, the 24-year-old driver of a Mercedes, while intoxicated, drove into a ditch, resulting in the deaths of three 16-year-old female passengers. He was detained and is suspected of violating traffic safety rules while under the influence of alcohol.
In the Lviv region, a driver who caused a fatal accident with three teenage victims in Brody has been notified of suspicion, reports UNN citing the Main Department of the National Police in the region.

The traffic accident occurred on July 20 at approximately 01:55 on Bohuna Street in the town of Brody, Zolochiv district.
As law enforcement officers preliminarily established, the driver of a Mercedes E200, a 24-year-old resident of Brody, lost control, drove off the roadway into a ditch, where he collided with two trees and a concrete power pole, after which the vehicle overturned.
As a result of injuries sustained in the accident, three 16-year-old female passengers died at the scene. Another passenger, a 16-year-old girl, is in the hospital in serious condition.
The driver of the car left the scene of the accident. Police officers found and detained him.
"It has been established that he was driving the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol," the statement reads.
The detainee, as stated, has been notified of suspicion of committing a criminal offense under Part 4 of Article 286-1 (Violation of traffic safety rules or operation of transport by persons driving vehicles while intoxicated) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The sanction of the article provides for punishment – imprisonment for a term of seven to twelve years with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a term of seven to ten years.
