Law enforcement officers are conducting a pre-trial investigation under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This concerns a violation of road traffic safety rules or vehicle operation by a person driving a vehicle, if it resulted in the death of the victim.
The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment from 3 to 8 years, as well as deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for up to 3 years.
Context
On Thursday, July 9, a fatal traffic accident occurred on the Odesa-Kyiv highway. A MAN truck crashed into a Mercedes minibus, which had 15 passengers and a driver. One person died, and five others sustained bodily injuries.
The deceased turned out to be a 15-year-old passenger of the minibus. Another 12 passengers, including seven minors, were hospitalized to medical facilities for necessary assistance.
Both drivers were tested for intoxication — they were sober.
