Energoatom reacted to rumors that Russia is launching the occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP
Kyiv • UNN
Energoatom stated that rumors about the launch of the Zaporizhzhia NPP are an attempt to legitimize the occupation of the station. Only Ukrainian specialists have the right to manage the Zaporizhzhia NPP, the company emphasized.

Energoatom said that the spread of rumours about the launch of the occupied Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant was an attempt to legitimise the presence of the Russian administration at the plant.
They emphasized that only Ukrainian specialists have the right and competence to manage the station, writes UNN with reference to the relevant statement of Energoatom.
Details
The National Nuclear Energy Generating Company "Energoatom" strongly condemns attempts to legitimize the illegal management of the Zaporizhzhia NPP. The presence of Europe's largest nuclear power plant under illegal Russian occupation since 2022 creates unacceptable security risks and violates international conventions on nuclear and radiation safety
They also emphasized that the further stay of the Zaporizhzhia NPP in conditions of occupation is categorically unacceptable. All talks about the "restart" of the Zaporizhzhia NPP power units under the control of representatives of "rosatom" are a direct violation of nuclear and radiation safety standards.
The license to operate the Zaporizhzhia NPP is held by its legal operator - SE NNEGC "Energoatom", and only Ukrainian specialists have the right and competence to manage the station
The operator of Ukrainian nuclear power plants also reported that the technical condition of the Zaporizhzhia NPP and the conditions created by the Russian invaders at the occupied station (limited communication lines with the power grid, depletion of the design resource of nuclear fuel and equipment, unqualified unlicensed personnel, lack of a final absorber, etc.) give serious grounds to assert that the restart of the station in its current state is technically impossible.
It is also noted that due to the occupation, the condition of critical safety systems has significantly deteriorated. Lack of proper maintenance, violation of repair schedules, lack of access to original spare parts and the inability to conduct full inspections leads to critical damage and aging of equipment. These factors also create preconditions for potential emergency situations.
In addition, the Russian side's statements about "professional management" of the station by representatives of "rosatom" are not true.
The presence of armed formations and military equipment on the territory of a nuclear facility, as well as the further militarization of the station and adjacent occupied territories, are key risk factors that cannot be ignored
Energoatom also added that blocking IAEA mission inspectors' access to a number of areas and premises of the Zaporizhzhia NPP creates obstacles to an objective assessment of the technical condition of the NPP's systems and components, which are vital for its safety.
The Company once again emphasized that the only way to restore safety at the Zaporizhzhia NPP is the complete de-occupation of the Zaporizhzhia NPP and the return of the station under the control of its legal operator - SE NNEGC "Energoatom".
Addition
Earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reported that the Russian authorities continue to manipulate the issue of nuclear safety, using the occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant (ZNPP) as a tool of blackmail and pressure on Europe.
