Danilov: Ukraine will not recognize Russian presidential election
Kyiv • UNN
Ukraine will not recognize the presidential elections in Russia in 2024, calling them a "farce" and stating that Russia has not had free and fair elections for a long time, as the electoral process is regularly interfered with and favors pro-government candidates.
Ukraine will not recognize the presidential election in Russia, because "there have been no elections in the country for a long time". This was stated by NSDC Secretary Oleksiy Danilov in a commentary to Radio Liberty, UNN reports.
"All civilized countries should not recognize these elections in Russia. But there is a big issue here: all the institutions were built before the Second World War and lived in one coordinate system, and now this whole coordinate system has changed. After the end of the Cold War, a new one was not built. I don't understand what a terrorist country is doing in the Security Council; people who kill children should not be allowed to have any conversation with any country in the world," Danilov said.
Voting in the Russian presidential election will take place from March 15 to 17, 2024. Elections in Russia are generally assessed by independent observers and experts as unfree and unfair. The authorities regularly interfere in the electoral process, obstructing access for the opposition, creating advantages for pro-government candidates, and in some cases, direct fraud.
Speaking about Russia's preparation of illegal elections in the occupied Ukrainian territories, the NSDC Secretary called it a "farce.
"We are calm about this, we are taking certain measures if possible and we are not going to recognize anything. We don't know what they're up to, but how can citizens with Ukrainian passports vote?" Danilov said.
Addendum
The Verkhovna Rada adopted a resolution calling on foreign states, international organizations and parliamentary assemblies to condemn the illegal so-called "presidential elections" in the temporarily occupied territories of the Russian Federation.
