Can civilians wear military uniform? - Explanation from the Ministry of Defense
Kyiv • UNN
The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has clarified the ban on civilians wearing uniforms with insignia. Violations are subject to a fine of up to 6,800 hryvnias and confiscation.

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reminded who has the right to wear military uniform and what responsibility is provided for violations. Camouflage remains popular among civilians, but not all such clothing can be legally used during walks. This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, as transmitted by UNN.
Who has the right to wear military uniform
The list of categories of citizens with the right to wear military uniform is approved by the order of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine No. 606 dated 20.11.2017, which establishes the Rules for wearing military uniform and insignia by servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the State Special Transport Service, and cadets of military lyceums.
According to these rules, military uniform may be worn by: servicemen, conscripts at training camps, reservists, cadets and lyceum students, those discharged from military service to the reserve or retirement with the right to wear military uniform.
However, civilian citizens do not belong to this list, so they do not have the right to wear military uniform.
What is the fine for military uniform for civilians?
Responsibility is provided for violations. In particular, wearing military uniform with chevrons of the Armed Forces of Ukraine or other military formations by persons who do not have the right to do so is punishable by a warning or a fine of 2,550 to 3,400 hryvnias (with confiscation of clothing with insignia), and for a repeated violation within a year, a fine of 3,400 to 6,800 hryvnias or public works for a period of 30 to 40 hours (with confiscation of clothing with insignia) is provided.
What is the difference between military uniform and "military" style?
The Ministry of Defense explains that military uniform is clothing made in camouflage pattern MM-14 (Ukrainian pixel), MM-16F (blue-gray pixel for the Navy) and other various camouflage patterns for special clothing for performing combat (special) tasks.
In contrast, clothing in the "military" style only visually resembles military clothing and does not contain state symbols or insignia.
Thus, civilians can wear "military" style clothing if it does not copy official military uniform and does not contain relevant symbols.
Recall
The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine explained when servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations switch to summer uniform. They clarified that in this matter, Ukrainian troops are not tied to specific dates, although the change of uniform is regulated by statutory documents.
