Bulgaria proposes to terminate 10-year security agreement with Ukraine

In Bulgaria, the pro-Russian "Vazrazhdane" (Revival) party has submitted a draft resolution to parliament to terminate the 10-year security agreement with Ukraine. This was reported by Novinite, according to UNN.

Details

The initiative was announced by MP Petar Petrov, who stated that the agreement was concluded without parliamentary approval, raising concerns about its legitimacy and long-term consequences.

According to him, the draft resolution would oblige the Council of Ministers, acting on behalf of the National Assembly, to terminate the agreement signed by the caretaker government.

In parallel, the party submitted another draft resolution — to withdraw Bulgaria's consent for state guarantees amounting to 1.2 billion euros, which are linked to the EU mechanism for supporting Ukraine.

"Vazrazhdane" believes that the repayment scheme creates financial risks for Bulgaria without clear guarantees of reimbursement.

"We believe that this money should primarily go toward the needs of Bulgarian citizens,"

Petrov emphasized.

He explained the party's position by citing the country's economic situation, specifically inflation, rising prices, and the budget deficit.

The draft resolutions are now expected to go through the parliamentary procedure, where they will be discussed by deputies as part of the legislative process.
