The U.S. Secretary of Defense announced the deployment of 10,000 DPRK troops to Russia. North Korean soldiers have received Russian uniforms and weapons, some of them are already near Ukraine.
North Korean troops deployed to the Kursk region of Russia are dressed in Russian uniforms and equipped with Russian weapons. This was stated by US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin during a joint briefing with South Korean Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun, UNN reports.
According to the latest intelligence, North Korea has sent 10,000 soldiers to train in eastern Russia. Some of these DPRK units have already been deployed closer to Ukraine, and we have seen them wearing Russian uniforms and being given Russian weapons,
He also expressed concern that the Kremlin plans to use the North Korean military to support Russia's military operations in the Kursk region.
Austin noted that consultations are underway between allies and partners on steps to respond to the actions of Russia and the DPRK, which, according to him, could expand or prolong the war in Ukraine.
When asked whether this could push other countries to directly participate in the war, the Pentagon chief replied that it could "encourage others to act," but did not go into details.
