The enemy missile was found in the forest near a village in Sumy region. It didn't explode when it fell, but it sustained damage to its hull and lost its engine. Explosive experts removed and destroyed it. This was reported by the press service of the National Police of Sumy region, according to UNN.
Details
It is noted that the missile was spotted on the edge of the forest by a community police officer while patrolling the area in a car.
At the site, explosive experts found that it was an X-59 Ovod air-to-ground missile. It is about seven meters long, weighs 930 kilograms and has a powerful warhead weighing more than 280 kilograms. When it hits a target, it causes serious damage and loss of life.
Such weapons, if detected, are destroyed by air defense systems in flight, but if they do not explode during the fall, they are neutralized by sappers at the site of detection,
After inspecting the missile and its parts, the sappers remotely separated the warhead from the body and then destroyed it with a padded explosive charge near the place of detection.
The explosion set fire to the dry grass on the edge of the field, and the police extinguished the fire.
