US Vice President Kamala Harris has taken a 2% lead over Donald Trump in a national poll after Biden's withdrawal from the race. 56% of voters believe that Harris is able to cope with the challenges.

Following Joe Biden's decision to withdraw from the race, US Vice President Kamala Harris has taken a two-point lead over Republican Donald Trump in a national poll. This is evidenced by the latest IPSOS poll  for Reuters, reports UNN.

Details

It is noted that this time Harris is ahead of Trump in a national poll with a score of 44% to 42%, while the difference is within the statistical error of 3 percentage points.

Instead, in a previous Reuters poll on July 15-16, Harris and Trump each garnered 44% support, and at the beginning of the month, the Republican was one percentage point ahead of the US vice president.

In addition, in the latest poll, 56% of registered U.S. voters said that the 59-year-old Harris "has a sharp mind and is able to meet challenges." Only 49% said the same about 78-year-old Trump, and only 22% said the same about 81-year-old Biden.

Addendum

The poll was conducted on July 22-23, after the US Republican National Convention, where Trump was officially nominated as the presidential candidate. In addition, at the time of the poll, Biden had already announced that he was withdrawing from the race and supporting Harris' candidacy.

According to Reuters, national polls indicate important signals of American support for politicians, but the fate of the US presidential election is usually decided in a few key states that traditionally support candidates from different parties.

Recall

Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer, the leaders of the Democratic caucuses in the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate, support the nomination of Kamala Harris as their party's presidential candidate.
