Police opened two criminal proceedings after a 14-year-old boy was killed during air rifle training at a lyceum.
In the Carpathian region of Ukraine, the National Police has opened two criminal proceedings over the death of a teenager during training with an air rifle. This was reported by the press service of the National Police of Ivano-Frankivsk region, UNN reports.
Details
On November 22, around 15:30, the police received a report that a 14-year-old schoolboy had died in the premises of a lyceum in Nadvirna district. The leadership of the Ivano-Frankivsk regional police, investigators from the Investigation Department and all relevant services immediately arrived at the scene.
Investigators found that the lyceum was holding a club session on target shooting with an air rifle according to the schedule.
During this lesson, a 9th grade student, a 15-year-old teenager, inadvertently shot another student while reloading an air rifle. The 4.5 mm bullet hit the chest area. The 14-year-old boy died from the injury before the ambulance arrived. At the time of the incident, the teacher was present in the corridor where the shooting took place. Law enforcement officers seized material evidence from the scene
The National Police emphasizes that in violation of security requirements and measures, the practice shooting took place in a public corridor.
Investigators of the Regional Police Investigation Department opened two criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Article 119 (negligent homicide) and Part 2 of Article 137 (improper performance of duties to protect the life and health of children, which caused the death of a minor) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

It is noted that the 60-year-old teacher, a resident of Nadvirna, was detained in a procedural order. An air rifle was seized during a search of the detainee's residence.
