A criminal case was opened against volunteer Kyrylo Taran for evading military service during mobilization after he failed to appear at the military medical commission and did not provide valid reasons for his absence.

Law enforcement officers opened a criminal case against volunteer Kyrylo Taran, who was previously detained by TCC employees because he refused to show his military registration documents.  Taran failed to appear on March 20 when summoned to attend a military medical commission. He did not provide any valid reasons for his absence. This was reported on Thursday by the OK "Zakhid", UNN reports. 

As noted,  on March 17, Kirill Taran  was served with a summons in the presence of lawyers to appear before a military medical commission on March 20, 2024. However, he failed to appear within the statutory period and did not give any valid reasons for his absence, the OK "Zakhid" added. 

"A case has been opened against a citizen liable for military service, Kyrylo Taran, under Article 336 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine "Evasion of conscription for military service during mobilization, for a special period, for military service by conscription of persons from among reservists during a special period", the statement reads. 

As noted, the article provides for imprisonment for a term of three to five years.

A video was posted on  social media showing five men in military uniforms in Lviv forcing a civilian into a minibus. It turned out that representatives of the military enlistment office had detained a Lviv volunteer, Kyrylo Taran. 

Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets, commenting on the detention of local volunteer Kyrylo Taran by the TCC in Lviv, said that this should not be the case in a democratic society. 

Later, the Lviv TCC commented on the detention of the volunteer. They stated that Kyrylo Taran refused to show his military registration documents and undergo a military check-up. He also provoked representatives of the TCC to a conflict.
