He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and history from the University of Delaware in 1965 and a Juris Doctor degree from Syracuse University College of Law in 1968. His political career began with his election to the U.S. Senate representing Delaware, where he served from 1973 to 2009. From 2009 to 2017, he held the position of Vice President of the United States under President Barack Obama, and from 2021 to 2025, he served as the 46th President of the United States.
