Trump's transition team is compiling a list of military personnel for a possible tribunal to withdraw from Afghanistan in 2021. Treason charges and the creation of a special commission to investigate are being considered.
Donald Trump's transition team is compiling a list of American military officers involved in the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan in 2021 and is considering bringing them to court martial. This was reported by NBC News, citing its own sources, UNN reports.

It is noted that American officials involved in this process plan to create a commission for a detailed investigation to find out who exactly participated in the decision-making process and how the withdrawal was implemented. This initiative also includes consideration of possible charges such as treason.
"They take it very seriously," the source emphasized.
The publication noted that former high-ranking officials, including Matt Flynn, who previously held a key position in the US Department of Defense, are involved in the investigation. However, his lawyer, Mark S. Zaid, denies any involvement of Flynn in this initiative.
Matt Flynn has nothing to do with Trump's transition team, let alone heading up any military justice review.
Sources in the Biden administration say they are skeptical of the treason allegations, noting that the military was following the president's orders. An independent review in 2022 by the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction pointed to mistakes by both the Trump and Biden administrations that led to a chaotic withdrawal.
According to US officials, Trump's transition team is considering recalling some commanders to military service for further trial.
