The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, stated that the current Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo remains manageable and can be stopped. He made this statement during a visit to the country, Yle reports, according to UNN.

According to WHO data, more than 900 suspected cases of Ebola virus infection have been recorded in Congo. Since mid-May, preliminary estimates suggest that nearly 240 people may have died from the disease. Meanwhile, the virus has already spread beyond the country's borders, specifically to neighboring Uganda, where cases of infection have also been detected.

Tedros emphasized that the international community must step up response measures to prevent further spread of the infection. According to him, the current situation remains difficult; however, control over the outbreak is still possible.

The head of the WHO also noted that the organization does not support the introduction of travel restrictions as a tool to combat the epidemic. According to him, such measures have limited effectiveness and are not decisive for containing the spread of the virus.
