Zelenskyy meets with Ursula von der Leyen in Brussels to discuss Ukraine's accession to the EU. The parties discussed new macro-financial assistance and the use of frozen Russian assets.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen discussed Ukraine's accession to the EU and macro-financial assistance worth 18.1 billion euros at a meeting in Brussels today, December 19, UNN reports 

Today, during a meeting with the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, we discussed the priorities of the new European Commission and Ukraine's accession to the EU. We also discussed the use of frozen Russian assets for the needs of Ukraine. “Thank you for the new EU macro-financial assistance worth EUR 18.1 billion under the G7 loan. We expect the first tranche in January 2025.

The President noted that Ukraine appreciated personal efforts of Ursula von der Leyen to consolidate unity in the EU around our country. According to him, the common position of Ukraine and all other European countries is important for the approach of a just peace.

The day before , the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said that the EU would start transferring its part of the loan of up to 35 billion euros in January as part of the G7 commitment. This is over 18 billion euros for 2025.
