On Thursday, major U.S. airlines and aviation unions called on President Biden's administration to suspend approval of additional flights between China and the United States.

Their request is based on the ongoing "anti-competitive policies of the Chinese government.

In February of this year, the U.S. Department of Transportation announced the possibility of increasing weekly round-trip Chinese passenger flights between the two countries to 50 starting March 31, up from 35 flights per week at the time, which is about a third of the pre-pandemic level.

Although American airlines were also allowed to operate 50 flights per week, they are not currently using all of these opportunities.
