Ukrainian drones can down "Shaheds" even from New York – Brave1 reveals new details about interceptors

Ukraine was the first in the world to scale the use of interceptor drones to destroy Shahed and "Gerbera" type strike UAVs. Today, such anti-aircraft drones have become one of the key and cheapest elements of the Ukrainian air defense system. This was stated by Andriy Hrytsenyuk, head of the Brave1 defense technology cluster, in an interview with The War Zone, as reported by Defense Express and UNN.

Details

According to Hrytsenyuk, Ukraine has effectively created a new class of weaponry. The cost of one interceptor drone is approximately $1,000–$2,000, making them significantly cheaper than traditional air defense systems.

Ukraine began actively using the first such systems in 2024, and currently, more than 150 manufacturers are operating in the country, creating various types of interceptors for specific conditions and regions.

Ukrainian drones can already be controlled from anywhere in the world

Brave1 states that the Ukrainian industry is already capable of producing more than 2,000 interceptor drones daily. According to the cluster head, production volumes could increase further if international contracts are signed. Following Ukraine's success, defense companies around the world have begun developing their own analogs of such systems.

Hrytsenyuk also stated that Ukrainian operators can already remotely control anti-aircraft drones from virtually anywhere on the planet. According to him, a pilot from Ukraine could theoretically intercept an Iranian Shahed over the Persian Gulf countries, while an operator from the US could intercept a Russian "Geran" attacking Ukrainian cities. He added that the main lesson of modern warfare is to constantly prepare for the worst-case scenario and not rely solely on existing technologies.
