Details

It is noted that this is the first such cultural institution  in Ukraine. It was announced in July 2023 that it would appear  in Kyiv. According to Hanna Starostenko, Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration , Kyiv is regaining its status as a world center of the avant-garde. Therefore, the creation of the museum is an important cultural and historical event.

Kyiv is regaining its glory as a world center of the avant-garde. The creation of the first Avant-Garde Museum in Ukraine is a necessary step in the cultural, historical and political sense. Russia expected us to fail under the pressure of its missile attacks, but despite this, we find the strength to show our art to the world. We have something to be proud of! In a full-scale war, this museum will become not only a center of cultural memory, but also a source of national pride, ideological inspiration and artistic development. This event will be recorded in Ukrainian history textbooks, and it will be another testament to our resilience,

- emphasized Hanna Starostenko.

Currently, the museum's exhibition features more than 50 works donated by collectors and artists. This collection demonstrates the entire path of development of the Ukrainian avant-garde, from the period of the classical avant-garde of the first half of the 20th century to the present day - from Anatol Petrytskyi, Vadym Meller, Oleksandr Bohomazov to contemporaries Oleh Tistol, Maryna Skuharieva, Viktor Sydorenko, Hlib Vysheslavskyi, and Oleksandr Zhyvotkov.

The Kyiv City History Museum is the largest museum association in the capital. It consists of the Museum and Exhibition Center, Mykhailo Hrushevsky Historical and Memorial Museum, Mykhailo Bulgakov Literary and Memorial Museum, the Manor on Kudriavka Museum, the Museum of the Occupation of Kyiv, the Museum of the Ukrainian Diaspora, the Sholem Aleichem Museum, the Museum of the Sixties, and the Serge Lifar Museum. The Avant-Garde Museum will become the tenth branch of the Kyiv City History Museum.
