The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine calls on the world to condemn Russia's planned presidential elections in the occupied Ukrainian territories and impose sanctions on those involved. The ministry emphasizes that the elections violate international law and will be declared invalid.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine calls on the international community to condemn the Kremlin's intention to hold presidential elections in Russia, in particular, in the temporarily occupied territories, and to impose sanctions on those involved in their organization.  UNN reports this with reference to the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the holding of Russian elections in the Ukrainian territories grossly violates the Constitution and legislation of Ukraine, norms and principles of international law, in particular the UN Charter.  The ministry emphasized that "such an election process, like all other similar propaganda events in the past, will be illegal and null and void."  

We call on the international community to strongly condemn Russia's intention to hold presidential elections in the occupied Ukrainian territories, and to impose sanctions on those involved in their organization and conduct

The Ukrainian diplomatic agency also calls on foreign countries not to send their citizens as observers to these pseudo-elections. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reminded that those who participate will face criminal liability under Ukrainian law.   

"Any elections in Russia have nothing to do with democracy. They serve only as a tool to keep the Russian regime in power," the ministry said.

On December 8, the Russian Central Election Commission announced that the next presidential elections will be held on March 15-17, 2024.  the Kremlin announced its intention to organize voting in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine: The Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, parts of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy statedthat after the presidential elections in Russia, where Vladimir Putin's "victory" is high, the game will be on the side of Western leaders - to recognize the results of the elections in Russia or not. But the illegitimacy of President Putin could be a turning point.
